LOCAL ELECTED BONNIE PYPLACZ, economic development officer for the North Shore Economic Development Commission, has been elected a director of the American Econom- ie Development Council, based in Rosemont, Illinois. She will represent the organiza- tion’s western wing. Pyplacz has a strong background in the area of eco- nomic development and _ local employment. After completing her master of science degree in regional planning al the Uni- versity of B.C., she worked in a consulting and employment role with employment development groups on the Sunshine Coast and the Fraser Valley, as well as with economic development agencies in Greater Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Pyplacz has helped work on projects that have captured nine international and four national awards for excellence in the area of economic development. The North Vancouver resident has also owned and operated her own small business as well as been a working partner in a number of family-owned ventures. In addition, Pyplacz has taught entrepreneurship at Fraser Valley College. Pyplacz is currently completing her third and final term as presi- dent of the Economic Deveiop- ment Association of B.C. The American Economic De- velopment Council (AEDC) was founded in 1926 and is an interna- tional organization of economic development professionals. Membership’ numbers over 2,300 from across Canada and the Unit- ed States.
