NEWS BRIEFS Wanted man apprehended on Upper Levels Highway THE WEST Vancouver Police found themselves with a wanted man on their hands March 4 after pulling over a track in the 2500-block of the Upper Levels Highway. The police had noticed that the truck's licence plate was tied vato the vehicle with a shoe lace. According to a police spokesman, when the driver was asked for identification, he allegedly couldn't produce any and said that he was Fred Wagner from the Yukon. Police charged 36-year-old Frederick George Zacharias, of Vancouver, with obstruction of justice. Zacharias is wanted by Vancouver Police for failing to appear in court; Coquitlam RCMP want the suspect in connection with impaired, breathalyser refxsal and assault charges; Burnaby RCMP want the cuspect in connection with a charge of possession of stolen proper- W. In Police recover stolen auto A NORTH Vancouver man has been scheduled to appear in West Vancouver court on April 22 to face charges of possession of stolen property and driving without a licence following the re- cent recovery by West Vancouver Police of a stolen car. Robert Andrew Miller-Tait, 28, was charged after the police re- covered a 1988 Nissan Micra from the Capilano Travel Trailer Park. By Elizabeth Collings News Reporter This Sunday, 30,000 rubber duckies will be released from a boom at the south end of the bridge at Upper Levels Highway over Capilano River. Approximately 12 minutes and three kilometres later, the first ducks should reach the mouth of the Capilano River where they will go through a shute. The fastest 10 ducks to finish will earn their ticket holders a share in more than $40,000 in prizes, including trips to London, England; Nice, France; the French Polynesian Islands; Hong Kong; Alaska; Disneyland and Whistler. Ticket sales are brisk, but tick- ets can still be bought for $5 a duck at any North Shore Credit Union, North Shore shopping malls, North Shore and Van- GREAT CAPILANO RIVER DUCK RACE couver YMCAs and at North Shore Save-On-Foods outlets. Sponsored by the North Van- couver Rotary Club, the duck race has become an institution on the North Shore. In the past three years the race has been held, more than $200,000 has been raised to support charities. Duck race organizers are pro- mising a day full of festivities for the family. Starting at 11:30 a.m., minstrels and jugglers will be strolling the riverside trails be- tween Woodcroft Bridge and the finish line. There will also be duck sculpturing, duck hunts and other activities leading up to the duck race at 1 p.m. Co-sponsored by the North Shore News, the duck race will have used 400 volunteers this year to help organize the event and run the race on Sunday.
