Rent hockey gear at NV store

RENTING HOCKEY gear for
kids is a new idea that has come
to North Vancouver, enabling
parents to save on start-up costs
when their children are bitten by
the hockey bug.

Time Out Sports in Lynn Valley
Centre is the first company in
Canada that offers families the
option of renting a complete
hockey kit that consists of a
CSA-appreed helmet and mask,
shoulder and elbow pads, pants,
shin guards, gloves, skates and a
bag.

Mike Statham, manager of
Time Out, said the package ap-
plies to both girls and boys from
ages four to 10.

“We aim this mainly at the
beginning hockey player, to help a
kid decide whether to stay in the

sport or not," Statham said.

Time Out Sports guarantees
correctly fitting equipment for two
years, regardless of how fast the
child grows and how often she or
he may need bigger gear.

The customer's $199.99 pay-
ment covers the entire two-year
period.

This year, there’s an added
bonus in that all the rentat
equipment is brand new. Statham,
21, says, ‘*if we were to actually
sell all this gear to a customer it
would cost $372.

“We have more hockey equip-
ment in the store now than we've
ever had,’’ he added. In the only
two weeks since Time Out started
to run the program, the company
has arranged 20 rental packages
and anticipates a big surge.

The company is owned by
Robbie Boyd, 42, a lifelong soccer
player who has recently taken up
hockey.
