Natural gas water heaters have faster recover rates

cient natural gas water heater that
works every day to provide plen-
tiful hot water for dishes, laundry

Natural gas water heaters have
two main advantages over their
‘electrical counterperts; a faster re-
covery rate, and lower operating
costs. A typical gas water heater
can heat 125 litres (33 Imperial
gallons) of water 38°C (100°F) per
hour, while comparable electric
water heaters heat only 46.4 litres
(10.2 Imperial gallons) of water in
the same tise.

to give advice

thermostatically controlled to heat
water and keep it warm. Very little
upkeep is necessary; however,
homeowners can help to extend the
life and increase the efficiency of
their gas water heater by following
these recommendations of the Ca-
nadian Gas Association.

© The pilot area should be kept
free from dust and dirt and the
outside of the water heater should
be washed occasionally.

© Combustibles should never be
stored in the area.

e Purge the heater of lime de-
posits and sediments, which cavse
the natural gas burner to work
harder, by draining a bucket of
water from the heater through the
faucet at the bottom of the tank
every three months.

© The pilot area should be clean
and free from. drafts. If a pilot
light goes out, the fuel supply
