Over 70 per cent of West Vancouverites sup- port some form of burning. “The problem is compounded by the concentration of burning on four weekends. But our task force has some exceilent recommenda- tions that should reduce the nuisance factor,’’ says Lanskail. As proud of the district as he is, Lanskail rejects the idea of West Vancouver as an ‘‘isolated kingdom,”’ and is working to “drain the moat”’ around it. In addition to improving rela- tions with the Squamish Indian Band, Lanskail spends about a third of his time on regional mat- ters, working cooperatively with the rest of the North Shore in areas of common interest and serving as chairman of the Regional Parks Committee, Regional Recycling Committee and Vancouver Regional Transit Commission. “Together with the other North Shore municipalities, we are play- ing a larger part in Greater Van- couver than ever before,’’ Lanskail concludes.
