Argyle stud

RUSSELL ANTHONY
SMITH, of Argyle School,
has been named the recipient
of the Governor General’s
Silver Medal for achieving
the highest scores in the pro-
vince in the Provincial
Scholarship Examinations.

Rusell wrote examinations
in Algebra 12, Chemistry 12
and Physics 12. His mark of
93 per cent in Physics was the
highest in the province, and
his overall average was 91.25
per cent.

Russell is the third North
Vancouver student in the past
four years to win such an
award. Previous winners
were Thomas Stevenson of
Carson Graham in 1980 and
Mark Kayll of Argyle in
1981.

Russ completed all of his
education in North Van-
couver attending Ross Road
Elementary and Argyle
Secondary schools. Although
heavily committed to the
study of mathematics,
physics, chemistry and elec-
tronics, Russ also involved
himself in other school ac-
tivities. He was a member of
the senior rugby team and
played baritone horn in the
school music program.
Russell was also a member of
the North Vancouver Youth
Band for many years, and
this past summer was on a

European tour with the
group.

from Simon Fraser Universi-
ty, a second from Queen’s
University in Kingston, On-
tano, and a third from
McGill University in Mon-
treal. He accepted McGill’s
$10,500 Entrance Scholar-
ship their highest award to an
out of province student, and
is currently enrolled in their
Engineering Faculty. He

plans to complete his under-
graduate degree and then
pursue a Master’s degree in
Physics/Electronics.

In addition to his McGill
Scholarship, Russell won an
Argyle Staff award, the
Delbrook Scholarship as the
outstanding Science graduate
of North Vancouver, and a
$2,000 Provincial Scholar-
ship.

Baby business is booming

Business in the North
Shore Health Department’s
Prenatal Program is certainly

ed to overflowing.
