C16 - Wednesday, April 27, 1983 - North Shore News Hair pulls good review WEATHERLEY THE ACTORS climb on the stage in street clothes, mill around as though they are backstage, change clothes, put on hippy wigs, and Hair begins. The show ends with a corresponding epilogue of modern voices, ending with Doc Harris. This is Vancouver Musical Theatre’s way of telling us that Hair is a relevant pro- duction for today’s au- dience, suggesting that people's attitudes have changed far more than the world has. Hair is VMT's_ seventh production and throughout their short, but successful history, they have proven themselves a company worth noting. Although this is certainly not one of their finest shows, it is worth seeing for some of the performances alone: especially among the triangle of Sheila (played by IMo- presents Clemente... Lelani Marrell, a talented product of the North Shore), John Payne, an_ excellent Claude, and Mark Hopkins as the irrepressible Berger. The back-up band, Rio, is another treat. And if the back-up cast is a little amateur, and the men’s wigs are a little fake, at least they are stronger than the plot.
