NEWS BRIEFS | Suspect snatched THE POLICE have arrested a suspect sought in an in- vestigation involving a string of robberies at exclusive jewelry stores in the Greater Vancouver area since August. A Crime Stoppers spokesman said Monday that the arrest came following a News account published earlier this month detailing the robbery investigation. A News reader provided the tip that revealed the identity of the suspect. In ome case, the thief robbed swedish Jewellers at Park Royal. The suspect walked into the West Vancouver store at 4:45 p.m. on Aug, 24 and asked a sales clerk for a closer look at a Rolex watch. When the clerk removed the watch from the showcase, the thief snatched tie time- piece and bolted from the sture. The theft was recorded on the in-store video system. According to the Crime Stoppers spokesman, Brent Larry Tracey, 26, was arrested in New Westminster on Sept. 17. Tracey faces seven charges of theft over $1,000. Two of the charges stem from incidents in West Van- couver and one of the charges stems from a robbery in North Varcoaver. Bridge closed THE LIONS Gate Bridge was closed to traffic for ap- proximately eight hours Sept. 26 and 27 whea a 30- year-old Delta man threatened to jump from the bridge. Vancouver City Police officers and a nurse were even- tuaily able to talk the man to safety. He was taken into custody at the scene just before 3 a.m. on Sunday.
