Shield Appeal needs more volun-
teers for the door-to-door canvass
on May 4.

“To do our part in West Van-
couver, we need a host of volun-
teers. You really can make a dif-
ference by giving just an hour of
your time,’? say West Vancouver
district campaign leaders Coco
Krutzen, Lillian Brett. and June.
Sutherland.

The..annual fund-raising drive
takes place on Monday, May 4 be-
tween 6 and 9 p.m. The money
raised througk the Red Shield Ap-
peal provides funding for the many
Lower Mainland Salvation Army
programs.- .

The organization provides such
services as accommodation for the
homeless, meals for the hungry,
care for senior citizens, guidance
for alcoholics, support for unmar-
ried mothers, assistance for fami-
lies, and camp for under-privileged
children, .

Last year the Salvation Army
raised $450,000 from the residen-
tial canvass and this year’s goal is
$500,000.
