Da wins N. Shore festival NORTH Vancouver Community Players were the big winners at the Festival of Plays held at Presentation House May 8-13. Besides several individual awards, the Players produc- tion of Da by Hugh Leonard will now represent the North Shore Zone at Theatre B.C."s Mainstage, the drama festival which encompasses winning groups from throughout B.C. and the Yukon, to be held this year in: Ladner during the week July 1-8. The Florence Goodwin Theatre Award for the most promising newcomer (and $200 to be applied to theatre development) went to Troy Martell, who was a member of the Da company. Tara Kobewka of Deep Cove Stage was awarded The Unsung Hero Award in mem- ory of Jim Brick. Audience members at the festival had a chance to vote on the People’s Choice Awards. The grant will help retrieve the engine and a portion of the stern from the Cape Breton, a ship that served in the final year of the Second World War.
