of a charitable donation

The B.C. Datsun “Z”
Registry donated $1,000 to
Lions Gate hospital children’s
ward this week on behalf of
the club and the sponsors that
helped make chis year’s event a
success.

The Sept. 6 show was the

‘third the club has organized

since it-began on the North

- Shore about five years ago with

about a dozen “Z” car owners
who: event coordinator Bob

Frizzle describes as “Z nuts.”

The club now bas about 50
members with some as far
afield as Kamloops and
Vancouver Island.

According to Frizzale, this
year’s show had approximately
100 cars on display including 2
few from the U.S. and
Alberta, and at least a dozen
race cars.

A different charity is select-
ed each year following the

show. Charity coordinator
Pau! Clancy made the dona-
tion on behalf of Leah Brule
who passed away in the ward
of the hospital some time ago.

Frizzle said one of the rea-
sons the club can show a prof:
it for charity is the nominal fee
charged ‘by the North
Vancouver recreation commis-
sion.

Fog lamps must be
wired with tail lights

visual impairment they cause.

Interestingly, the Regs do
state that fog lamps must be
hooked into your tail lamp
assembly, which is reasonable
when you consider that using
fog lights is supposed ta
mean it’s foggy and hence,
drivers behind you need to
see your rear-end as much as
you need to see the road in
front.

Also of interest, fog lamps
may be used in lieu of head-
lamps when atmospheric con-
ditions make the use of head-
lamps detrimental to safe dri-
ving.

stand that using extra lights
or high-beams during fo
merely brightens up the fog .

Another problem caused
by overly illuminated bone-
heads stems from the fact
chat some drivers are

installing improper light
assemblies on their vehicles.

A genuine fog light
assembly includes 2 special
fens design that refracts light
downward and outward only.

Problem is, many drivers
are installing secondary light
assemblies which are simple,
after-market “driving lights”
which illume like a panoramic
throbbing bladder of light.

Additional driving lights
do not help in foggy condi-
tions, at any rate. In fact,
additional driving lights,
according to the Regs, are
only to be used in conjunc-
tion with high-beams which,
in turn, are only to be used
on long, dark, bleak stretches
of road and when no other |
drivers are relatively nearby.

In the end, the ill-usage of .
those ultra- cool, super-slick,
ego-boosting status symbols '
otherwise known as tog lights’
is only iliegal if they’re
hooked up wrong or of the
wrong design.

Otherwise it's just bone-
head. behaviour.

If cops could start hand- .
ing out tickets for “dsiving ©
with an overly dense: brain
protector” it'd be a better
world. Alas. .
