From August 10 through September 16, fine local musicians will perform acoustic brass and chamber music. You are invited to’ relieve the strain of your day by . listening to the soothing strains of baroque; classical and early music presented free in a relaxed, casual at- mosphefe in the fresh air. Everyday, except days, from noon to 2 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., you can grop by for a musical break, or bring a picnic and stay for an entire perfor- mance under the striped tent Christmas crafts deadline PRESENTATION House continues its December tradi- tion by announcing plans for the 8th Annual Christmas Craft Fair. Serious craftspeople will have the opportunity to ex- hibit their finely-crafted wares in a_ professional, gallery setting amongst tradi- tional decoration and lively entertainment - a perfect en- vironment to present quality work to the public in time for Christmas gift-giving. The Fair dates are as follows: Session I - December on Round Point, at the east end of the island, adjacent to the Granville Island Hotel. It’s the perfect setting to enjoy professional and amateur trios, quartets, quintets and bands, many of which have members from the other Vancouver Sym- phony Orchestra, the CBC Chamber Orchestra or who teach with music faculties in greater Vancouver. And perfect for this pro- gram is the early music of Harmonie, laying works # commissioned. by courts of Mon- ' the eighteepfti century, music especially written to be played outdoors. Bassoon, clarinet and oboe will blend pleasingly when the Vancouver Wind Trio performs. Led by Gene 6 to 9, Session II - December 3 to 16, Session III (consign- ment only) - December 8 to 23. Sessions | and IJ will in- clude a consignment area co- ordinated and run by Presen- tation House staff, in addi- tion to the large booth areas where the public will have the opportunity to meet with the artist. All submissions will be juried to ensure quality of technique and a creative ap- proach to the medium. You won’t want to miss Contra-Band, the amazing tuba trio who will astound you with their virtuosity. And speaking of brass, you’ll hear the best with such pro- fessionals as Just Brass Quintet, Trilogy Brass, Toc- cata Brass Quartet and Cypress. Brass. On some quieter notes, you'll be lulled by sweet madrigals from Vox Humana, a six-voice ensem- ble and Takeo Yamashiro will soothe with meditation music played on a schkauhachi.
