Voters should feel ashamed Dear Editor: British Columbians are no longer travelling towards a pro- vincial debt disaster, We have ar- rived. As citizens, we cannot sit back and constantly lay blame on the government that we have elected, and have given the mandate to pursue an ideologically driven agenda. Culpable and accountable for the debt and deficit atrocity are those individuals who voted for the Harcourt government in the 1991 election. It is no Surprise that the social- ist ‘‘money grows on trees’’ phi- losophy of the NDP would direct the present provincial government to blatantly spend money that they do not have, and make no allempt to make a dent in the yearly deficit. Bleeding-heart lefties and the rest of the bandwagon have put a sax-and-spend monster in control of our money, Voters who helped to deposit the present iot of dregs into the legislature should feel ashamed of themselves, ideologues out of touch Dear Editor: So our Jocal NDP lapdog David Schreck accuses the media of “olaying up the so-called (ax revolt." { should be used to Schreck's nonsensical utterances by now but once again he outdoes himself, Once again we see how com- pletely out of touch Schreck and his ideologue gang are. Schreck, himself ‘‘delighted’’ with the “good news” budget, cannot comprehend how a budgei which raises taxes by $800 million while maintaining a $1.5 billion _ deficit could incite average citizens “to political action. The recent NDP budget over which Schreck was so cestalic merely takes $800 million more out of British Columbians pockets in 1993, while guaran- tecing future tax increases by building up a massive provincial debt. ! would suggest to Schreck and his fellow socialist dinosaurs that far from ‘playing. up the so-called tax revolt,"’ the media are accu- rately reporting the extent of public frustration in this province. After all, Mr. Schreck, the media are concerned with facts; they leave the fiction and distor- tion to you and your political masters. Steve Hodge North Vancouver Linden second-highest Canuck _ Dear Editor: Greg Douglas’ column of April 21 has absolutely no credibility at all. How can hockey fans respect his opinions when it is obvirus he doesn’t even. bother to check his facts? Pavel Bure scored 34 goals last year (Douglas added one), and this was accomplished . in 65 games, not 44, Furthermore, Trevor Linden —_- WV get own house in order Dear Editor: If/:West Vancouver’s .° Mayor . Sager is truly sincere in his battle against the NDP’s homeowner’s tax hike, our association suggests he get his own house in order as council’s proposed . 1993 budget will be a large” part of our tax problem. The budget had an increase of 5.9% in public spending. We have now been told it will be 3%. Our ratepayers association Terommends not a 5.9% increase, not a 3% increase but 0% increase in public spending for every . department at municipal hall, and ‘curbs public spending. it is time that all levels of gov- ernment quit passing the buck. ‘EJ. Fonseca, president Ambleside and Dundarave Ratepayers Association not Bure — is the second- highest-paid Canuck with a base salary of just under $1 million. In fact, David Babych is paid a salary equal to Bure’s $660,000 per year, as is Geoff Courtnall — and Courtnall is paid in American funds which gives him a base of almost $800,000 Canadian. , Newspapers, Mr. Douglas, should contain fact, not fiction, so next time do your homework.
