Store is for size-plus women

the beachwear manufacturer was
forced to swim a different stroke
or sink in the last couple of years,
since fashion focus has shifted
from the sand to the street.

The company, owned by
brothers Doug, Brad and Mal
Whiteford, was selling to 800
stores across Canada and was the
official supplier to MuchMusic
and Blackcomb Mountain.

Radical Shirt Co. had changed
its direction to a corporate focus
in the spring, creating hand-dyed
separates for the staff of large
grocery store chains, restaurants
and other non-related companies,
but the firm could still not hold
its ground.

Inside the fashion world

{f you would like to meet some
of Vancouver’s designers, store
owners, fashion photographers,
modelling agents, public relations
fashion reps, fashion press, and
other industry members, the De-
signers and Fashion Association is
holding its first Fashion Evening
of the season on Monday, Sept.
28, and the public is welcome. It
takes place at Le Meridien Hotel
at 6:45 p.m.

The guest speaker for the even-
ing will be Maria Leone, | vice-
president of the well-respected de-
signer boutique Leone. Maria
will discuss the relationship tbe-
tween a designer and a retailer,
and will also provide insight into
how B.C.’s current economic sit-
uation will affect the retail in-
dustry in the future.

The fashion show portion of the
meeting will highlight three of
Vancouver’s successful hat de-
signers in a lively presentation
featuring both casual toppers and
sophisticated evening chapeaux.

Hat designs are by Margaret
Blackbura, Edna Olsen and Carol
Nixon.

customers. Though all prices and
colors are listed, it is not designed
as a mail order catalogue, unfor-
tunately, only as a guide for use
