Van NORTH VANCOUVER residents could have up to four new neighborhood pubs in their area if the provincial gov- ernment approves new pub ficence applications proposed for North Vancouver City and District. And that prospect has upset the Neighborhood Pub Owners’ Association of B.C. and at least one North Vancouver drinking establishment. The Liquor Control and Licens- ing Branch (1.CLB) has given pre- liminary site and applicant (PSA) approval to four businesses that hope to open four separate neighborhood pubs on the North Shore: three in. LCLB manager ot mmunica- tions Rosa Muzer said the PSA approvals are only the first step in approving a neighborhood pub application. She said it is now up to) North Vancouver City and District to gauge public opinion on the issue. “Ar this stage we're simply si ing the applicants do meet the ini- tial approval. Only if there was support from the municipalities wauld we go any further,” said Muzer. “Whether four (pub) ap- plications is unusual or not de- pends on their locations. We would not entertain an application within one radius mile of another neighborhood pub."’ North Vancouver District spokesman Mark Bostwick said the three neighborhood pubs pro- posed for the district are currently working on design plans.
