Family-oriented Folkfest kicks off at Victoria Park FREE ENTERTAINMENT, a pancake breakfast and an arts and craft fair are just a few of the events lined up for North Van- couver’s 27h) Folkfest scheduled to run from June 22 to 24. Saturday at Victoria Park where the Lions Club Parade — full of floats, decorated cars. majoretie groups and bands — will proceed up Lonsdale to i8th Street and turn left on Jones to finish at Mahon Park. Trophies and ribbons for best entries to the parade will be awarded at Mahon Park where face painting, children’s garnes, square dancing and three-pitch sottball will also be on hand. Folkfest chairman Stella Jo Dean suggests families oring a picnic to spend the day at Mahon Park. “We try to put things on for families,’ says Dean. ‘dt is all oriented for families."* The Lions Club will also be serving a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to Hs a.m. on Saturday in the civic centre at 14th and Lons- dale. Ac 8 p.m. on Friday through Sunday, Centennial Theatre at 23rd and Lonsdale will showcase a wide variety of performers — 22 groups in total — including the Strathcona Chinese Dancers, the Slovenian Folkloric Group, the Vevbush Ukrainian Dancers, the Silver Harbour Senior Tap Dancers and the Weavers Square Dancers. Admission is free. Other Folkfest festivities —in- clude: * June 20-29 (except June 23): an arts and crafts fair will be held 10 am. to 5 p.m. at the civic centre where potters, artists and crafts- men will display and. sell their Wares, * June 23: John Stuart will lead a heritage wali, through the Grand Boulevard area (for information, call 987-5618); * June 23: Silver Harbour Centre will hold an arts and crafts and food fair from 1 to 3 p.m. at the centre, 144 East 22nd St. Celebrations include arts and crafts fair NORTH VANCOUVER Foikfest celebrations will begin on Thurs- day, June 20 with the '2th annual eraft fair. This year the fair is being held in the garden and waterfall area located on Lensdale Avenue at (4th Street. Forty artists were juried into the show by convenor Frieda Peters and artist Valerie Moss. Items for sale will include exotic silks and lingerie, wood carvings, jewelry, toys, cushions, functional pottery and Raku. Crafts will be on display rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until June 29, with the exception of Sunday, June 23. On Sunday, Folkfest celebra- tions will also feature the North Vancouver Lions Club Canada Week Parade.
