Rockets blast stingers The West Van Rockets exploded for six third period goals three of them coming off the stick of winger Dan Corrigan — to roli to a 10-4 win over the North Van Stingers Monday night at the North Van Rec Centre. For the first two periods it was anybody's game, with the Stingers holding the edge and outshooting the Rockets 37-20. However, alert goaltending by the Rockets’ HELPING PROMOTE RADIO week Mark Mees in the early going was probably the deciding factor in preventing the game from turning around in the Stingers’ favour. The Rockets managed to come away with a 2-1 lead at the end of one and then carry a 4-3 lead into the final period. The Stingers opened scoring nine minutes into the first period on a power play goal by Bob Murphy from Glenn Clausen. But then, three minutes before the ESE 9g, Pete Rose, here being outfitted with a CBC toque by Anne Petrie and Patrick Muron of the radio show, 3's company. On Sunday, the production studios will be open all day with many CBC broadcasters and performers on hand. The studios will be open from noon to 4 p.m. WHY DOES RON pevaygee-) =: BECAUSE: period ended, the Rockets countered with the first of two quick goals — Barry Penman scoring on the power play and Rex Biedler scoring one minute later to give West Van a 2-1 lead. The Stingers took a 3-2 lead in the second with North Van's John Livak scoring the equalizer 90 seconds into the period, and then Glenn Clausen following with a go-ahead goal midway through the frame. But the Rockets pulled back into a tie at the fifteen minute mark as Dan Griffiths finished off a three on two break with a sizzling slap shot from 25 feet out that caught the top corner. With only two seconds remaining in the period, following a spectacular save by Mees on what appeared to be a sure goal, a relay from Al Wilson and Craig Harman put Dan Corrigan in the clear to give the Rockets a 43 lead as they headed into the final penod. The Rockets took com- mand right from the start of the third, scattering six goals throughout the penod Corrigan with his hat tnck, Biedler his second tally of the game and Dave Harvey and Harman adding singles. Leading point getters of the night were Corrigan with four goals and three assists, followed by Harman and Harvey cach with a goal and three assists.
