The history of the site goes back to the 1863 opening of a sawmill, Pioncer, which is owned by the Manitoba-based James Richard- sons and Sons Ltd., bought the terminal in 1972, although the terminal has been in its present location since 1927. Today, the terminal is consid- . ered to be one of North America’s most modern and efficient grain-handling facilities. It has a licensed storage capaci- ty of 108,000 tonnes. It can unload and clean 150 railcars a day and has a vessel loading rate of 2,200 tonnes per hour. Pioneer’s annual handling ca- pacity is more than 2.5 million tonnes. e@ Saskatchewan Wheat Pool: This North Vancouver grain ter- minal ships 60% wheat, 25% barley and 15% canola seed. Other products handled by Saskatchewan include durum and grain by-products.
