Manning's reasons for geuing

Let's take a look at that.

Firstly, itis not essential to have
immigration critics from cities like
Vancouver and Toronte. Certainly,
they are bursting with Asians,
Africans and all the rest. But those
same people are in a position to
harass an MP who doesn’t fit their
agenda 1,

‘There are thousands of East
Indians in Surrey only too ready to
camp on Meredith's doorstep. So is
she going to bash our idiotic “fani-
ly reunification” system in the way
Hanger did? J doubt it.

If she ever raises her voice in
the House against such things,
being accused of “racisin” would
be the least she could expect.

It is of course possible that an
MP in a heavily immigrant area
would have the spine to defy the
ethnics and the media, but in.
Meredith's case I'm not holding |

Secondly, why fire the general
who was winning the war? ©

The word F get is that many
B.C. Reform MPs are not pleased, ».
Hence Manning's explunatory let-
ter, On this and other issues there is
a good deal of dissatisfaction.

He has opposed forming provin-
cial parties, for instance, and has
given no support to the B.C.

Reform Party. Quite the opposite, » >
In byelections’ he has even taken

out ads distancing himself from
local candidates.

He would not allow a provincial
party to be formed in Ontario. The
result was that Tory Mike Harris
won on a largely Reform platform.
Dropping Herb Grubel as finance
critic because he isn’t bilingual also
makes no sense.

Manning is always. looking for

“respectability.” meaning pats on
the back from the politically correct

‘press. He doesn't understand that

people are fed up with that stew.
They want the Mike Harrises,
