The. coverage &: the North
Shore {Jews is much appreciated
for informing residents with
regard to municipal government
on the North Shore. ;
Surj Rattan is to be commended
for summarising the topics so’
well. .
There is one omission, however,
that I would like to point out.
When the candidates were listed
after nomination papers were filed,
and I noted that the fact I was a,
former councillor was omitted.
(while other former whatevers had
been mentioned), he said that Ed-
itorial had taken it out.

Today when | called to wonder

why it would have been taken out’

again, he said that it was an over-
sight on his part and that I should
write to you right away.

You will agree that the fact that
one has previously served on
council (as on others’ highlights) is
an important one to note,
especially since, it indicates
valuable experience.

It would be much appreciated if
you would kindly correct this.

vice to the community and your
attention to this matter.

Make your mark Nov. 20

Dear Editor:

It is with voter fatigue in mind
that 1 set out to remind. West
Vancouver residents of the up-
coming municipal elections.

Of particular concern to me are
our 18-year-old citizens who for
the first time will be given the
right to vote in municipal elec-
tions.

They should contact their can-
didates and determine who, if any,

among them have given thought to
their concerns.

While democracy may not be
perfect, it’s the best form of gov-
ernment invented to date; howev-
er, its effectiveness is based on
voter participation.

So, on Nov. 20, make your
mark and vote in the municipal
election.

Stop grading

incumbents

Dear Editor:

The North Vancouver
Chamber of Commerce would
like to commend the North
Shore News on its coverage to
date. of the municipal election
campaigns.

However, we are concerned
with your policy of
“grading”. incumbents. Our
concerns are as follows:

The grades appear to be the
opinion of only one reporter.
We do not know the
reporter’s biases or who his
friends may be.

There appear to be no
criteria as to how the grades
are determined.

The incumbents’ positions
on. specific issues are not
disclosed.

The qualities of the non-
incumbents are ignored.

We would strongly recom-
mend that the North Shore
News cease grading incum-
bents until some criteria for
the grades have been estab-
lished and published.
