Society sponsoring annual coin fair

THE NORTH Shore
Numismatic Society will
present its 18th annual coin
fair on Oct. 17 and 18 from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mickey
McDougall Hall, 23rd and
Lonsdale in North Van-
couver.

The event, which is free to the

evaluations and displays.

One of the special features of
this year’s coin fair will be the
world’s first banknote that will be
on display at the fair.

The banknote is from the Ming
Dynasty era from China, the
country that invented both paper
and printing.

According to legend, the
banknote belonged to Emperor

1399 A.D. The legend continues
that counterfeiters would be
beheaded and those who gave in-
formation on the arrest and con-
viction of counterfeiters would be
granted 250 taels (silver coins) and
the property of the criminal.

The coin fair will also feature a
chance to win an attractive 1992
Gold Panda coin as one of the

public, will include free coin Hung Wu who lived from 1368 10 many door prizes.
