Wednesday, June 17, 1992 — North Shore News — 24 Junior lacrosse teams midway through season Over 130 boys and girls now playing NORTH SHORE junior lacrosse is fast approaching the midway point of its season. Lacrosse has been around on the North Shore for more than 20 years and the growing popularity of the sport has brought this year’s registration to more than 130 boys and girls ranging in age from four to 16. The various team levels include Mini-Tyke, Tyke, Novice, Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget. The sport is fast-moving and helps improve hand-eye coordina- tion and endurance. It is a great sport for hockey and ringette players to play in the off-season to help improve their agility. Lacrosse has been played by some famous hockey greats, in- cluding Wayne Gretzky and Cliff Ronning. The season runs from late March to late June for the younger players and into early Ju-' ly for Pee Wee and above-level players who get involved in _ Playoffs and tournaments. Practices are held at either of these two locations or at any of the various outdoor lacrosse boxes on the North Shore (Myrtle Park, Inter River, Ross Road or William Griffin). Annual registration is held in late February to late March with prior notice through schools, North Shore News, Shaw Cable and bulletins at the various recre- ation cer:tres.
