8 - Sunday, July 22, 1990 - North Shore News BUD SMITH is the ninth cabinet minister to resign since Bill Vander Zalm took the Socreds to victory in October 1986. Smith’s taped telephone conversations were tabled in the Legislature by New Democrat Moe Sihota, who has since come under an RCMP investigation and could conceivably go to prison for contempt of parliament. But Smith's disgrace remains a severe hlow to the Social Credit party, which had come to regard him as Vander Zalm’s heir apparent. Could this scandal become the socialists’ ticket to power?
