There used tc be a program here on the You can North Shore some time ago that helped pregnant teenagers. Is it still in operation and, if so, how do we contact them? Answer: A new Pregnant and Parenting Teens Support program has been operating out of North Shore Neighbourhood House since early this year. The program sup- ports all options for pregnancy. The two outreach workers at- tached to the program are young and non-judgmental. They work one to one with their clients and offer help in the decision making process. They are able to make appropriate referrals to other sources of help and advise the young person of all the available options. The workers also offer support and informal counselling to the baby’s father and to the rest of the client’s family if requested. They can also assist in locating appropriate housing and/or childcare for the young mother. Often donations of clothing, toys and furniture are given to the Pregnant and Parenting Teens Program, which are passed on to clients in need. A hot lunch pro- gram is offered once a week for moms, dads, pregnant. girls, children and babies. This program, which is fully funded by the Ministry of Social Services and Housing, exists to help pregnant and parenting teenagers find the route that is best for them. You can reach the program by calling 987-8138 and asking for Mary or Shauna. eee be We would like to bring to the attention of all the seniors who have contacted our office the new SAFER rates which will come into effect on July 1, 1990.
