FUTURE GENERATIONS WILL BE THANKFUL Preserve canyon park Dear Editor: I am writing to you with regard te the current threat to the future of Lynn Canyon Park. My family and I are very concerned with the North Vancouver District's proposals for destroying our unique park wilderness area as we now know it and the quality of our neighborhood lifestyle. The idea that Lynn Canyon Park is about to be criss-crossed by four-lane highways and developed for housing is really unbelievable. Can you imagine tourists and residents of our area walking along and suddenly being confronted with highways that cut off existing nature trails and the integrity of the wilderness area? . In addition, our quiet neighborhood will be sub- jected to high levels of traffic noise and the traffic threat to our children’s safety. I have just returned from a business trip to Asia where there is phenomenal growth in residential and commercial land development in major cities. How- ever, one is struck by the lack of parks and recreation areas and entire wilderness areas for residents are vir- tually unknown. We must not let this happen on our North Shore area. Twenty years from now when we look back at the campaign by residents of our community, representing every walk of life, future generations will be thankful we had the vision to preserve such a unique wilderness area right in the middle of a city. Saving the entire Lynn Canyon Park will also make us quite unique in providing increasing numbers of tourists especially from Asian countries with an expe- rience in Lynn Valley that they have either lost or have never known. Residents of the North Shore must unite together to ensure that the area under review is saved for future generations in Canada and abroad to appreciate and enjoy. Roger F.
