Van man busted twice for cocaine A FORMER West Vancouver teacher was sentenced Wednesday in Vancouver county court to three years in jail after being found guilty on nine sexual-assault related charges involving adolescent males. A 29-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man, ordered March 3 in North Vancouver provincial court to stand trial in Van- couver county court on a charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, was arrested two days later cocaine for the purpose of traf- ficking in connection with a March S incident in Richmond in which approximately one pound of co- caine, with an estimated street i Daniel Leroy Bristow, 64, was | initially found guilty Nov. 22 on seven counts of indecent assault and (wo counts of gross indecen- cy involving six males in connec- tion with incidents that occurred ; between January 1968 and June | 1979. The 64-year-old Bristow was the director of the music and drama program at Sentinel Sec- ondary School from 1966 to 1978. He was originally charged with aine counts of indecent assault and three counts of gross in- decency, but was acquitted on one count of gross indecency and two counts of indecent assault with 2 seventh male. Complainants testified during a five-day trial that Bristow had fondled them, and engaged them is masturbation and oral sex in his bedroom in North Vancouver and on camping trips. Bristow was sentenced to three years in jail on all nine counts. and charged with four additional drug-related counts. Michael Anthony Johnston was originally charged jointly with Debra frene Gummow, 28, of Red Deer, Alberta, with possession of cocaine for the purpose of traf- ficking in connection with an April 25, 1988 seizure of an estimated $300,000 worth of cocaine at Westview Drive and the Unper Levels Highway. Appearing before Judge J.D. Layton following a pieliminary hearing into the charge, Johnston was ordered to stand tnal on the charge in a higher court and elected to be tried by a judge and jury. Gummow has also elected to be tried by a judge and jury. Johnston was released on $100,000 bail, but on Sunday he was arrested and charged with two additional counts of trafficking in cocaine in connection with Feb, 2 incidents in which drug deals were alleged to have been made in North Vancouver and Burnaby: and further charged with traffichk- ing in cocaine and possession of value of $140,000, was alleged to have been sold to an undercover police officer. The investigation was a joint ef- fort of North Vanrouver and Bur- naby RCMP drug squads. Johnston is currently being held in custody and will appear March 15 in North Vancouver provincial court to show cause why he should be released on bail prior to his trial. He is scheduled to appear April $ in Vancouver county court to set a date for trial on the original charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
