rare meteor sighting

THE GORDON Southam Obser-
vatory has received several reports
of a rare and brilliant’ daylight
fireball, seen in the Vancouver
area on Tuesday, July 14.

Observatory supervisor David
Dodge is hoping to gather enough
information to pinpoint the time
and direction of this spectacular

meteor. He says the occurrence of
a meteor bright enough to over-
power the blue sky and be seen in
daylight is very rare. “If this had
happened at night, ['d have a stack
of reports about it two feet tail,’
he said.

Anyone who witnessed the event
is urged to contact the observatory
