By ADRIAN CHAMBERLAIN **I stole the sign idea,’” ad- mits 33-year-old Dan Riley, the man who created the sign and who needs the work. ‘‘My mother told me about three weeks ago someone put a (similar) huge sign on Hastings St. that said ‘I need a job’, with the guy’s name on.”’ Riley says he’s ‘really senous’’ about finding work. He said his last real job was in 1971, when he worked part-time as a_ recreation Organizer at a community centre. Riley now lives with and is supported by his mother, who's 68. **I'd do anything. I'll take Situation’s so utterly hopeless.” But after two weeks, Riley says his sign has netted him no jobs. “A few people mentioned seeing it. And the guy next door said he might try (pur- ung up a simular sign).’’ Riley said he completed his grade 12 last June to increase his chances of finding work He also took art classes for two years at the Vancouver School of Art. “*['d like to be a fine artist -.. @ painter if I had my druthers,’” he said. Riley said while his sign is ‘**functional’’, it isn’t one of his better works. ““When I'd finished the sign, 1 thought it was the most horrible things I'd seen.”” DAN RILEY has little to smile about — an adult student grad from Hillside Secondary last spring, he’s still without work despite the large sign on his West Vancouver lawn.
