The National
Board has launched a civil
suit against the Japanese
freighter, Toyota. Maru, to
recover damages caused
when the vessel smashed
into a dock at Neptune
Terminals in North Van-
couver, last Wednesday.

A NHB legal spokesman
said Tuesday, that the civil
suit had been launched but
at the time he could not
release the amount of

compensation being sought.

The spokesman said as far
as he knew the freighter was
still in port on Tuesday.

fighters have had trouble
with motorists driving over
their fire hoses while battling
both of the bad fires in the
area recently, according to a
West Vancouver Fire
Department spokesman.

- And a spokesman for the
West Vancouver Police
warns that drivers can be
prosecuted under the Motor
Vehicle Act for driving over
an unprotected fire hose
unless directed by a peace
officer or a fire fighter.

The problem, although a-
