14 - Sunday, Aprii 11, 1999 — North Snore News north shore news § FASHION Makeover contestant Linda Denley faces spring Layne Christensen Fashion Editor layne@nsnews.com WHEN we asked readers for letters on why they wanted a makeover, the responses poured in. Linda Denley, who was looking to update her look, was our lucky winner. A. disabilities | management worker and wellness advisor at Capilano College, Denley dresses casually at work. Free time is spent gardening or fixing up the newly purchased Upper Delbrook home she shares with daughter Victoria, 16, and son Adam, 12. It was Victoria who put Linda’s name forward for the makeover, writing in her letter thar it would be nice to give her mom “one day where she doesn’t have to worry about the house or her work.” One week before makeover day, Denley visited Beverly Ball Hair Design and Nurturing Centre on Esplanade. Salon owner Beverly Ball cropped Deniley’s shoulder- length cut to a chin-length bob and sculpted face-framing layers to add lift and volume to her fine hair. “What’s so nice about this cut,” said Ball, “is that it flatters all age groups, by adding softness around the face.” To add light and dimension to Denley’s light brown hair, colour technician Suzanne Gardner added highlights in wheat blond, gold and copper, using a foil technique. Ribbons of colour help brighten Denley’s complexion and camou- flage grey. Denley also enjoyed a body wrap in onc of Beverly Ball’s treat- ment rooms, courtesy of Paris- trained esthetician Nasrin Sanjabi. The detoxifying treatment, com- bined with a complete face and scalp massage, was blissful, : enthused Denley, who jokingly said : she slipped through “six stages of consciousness. Also before makeover day, Denley enjoyed a European facial, which included a facial toning ses- sion, with esthetician Tereza Pavel at Body Beautiful Salon on Clyde Avenue in West Vancouver. As part of her makeover package, Denley was treated to a fitness consultation with Busy Body Private Training and a rhree-day pass to the Panorama Club. During a complimentary two-hour session, trainer Michelle Barker started Denley on a beginner's weight-training program which incorporated the bal- anced-body method of pilates techniques for core strengthening. The program would help Denley get Before back into shape for hiking, a favourite pastime. On makeover day, Formal Affair Limousine Service chauffeured Denley to and from her appoint- ments in style. First stop was Avalon Natural Health and Wellness Clinic for a manicure. Denlev'’s nails were ragged from gardening and housework so esthetician Lushea Simone pampered them with a hot oil and herbal treatment. Nails were finished with a pale pink polish. Next, Denley was delivered to Beverly Ball where hair was washed then dried in sections using a round bristle brush. Srylist | Dorora Dziegiclewska worked a volumizing tonic through the hair for shine and added hady. After Junch at Corsi Trattoria, Denley was whisked away to Merle Norman in Capilano Mall. Beauty adviser Alexandra Obach selected colours from Merle Norman’s spring °99 collection. After applying a sheer foundation and concealer where required, eyeshadow powders were used — matte sand over the entire lid; cappuccino in the crease and silver sand beneath the brow bone. Brows were filled in with a taupe pow- der and flashes length- ened with a sweep of mascara. A sweep of blush, cocoa flip liner and cocoa plum lip- stick finished her took. Because this season’s makeup is sheer and shimmery, Obach glossed lips with a slick of Pink Ice. For the photo — session, wardrobe consultant Diana Kilgour selected nwo outfits that would complement Denley’s lifestyle and new look. The first, from Ms. Emma Designs in Ambleside, was a jacker and pants ensemble (pictured left) in a rayon- like fibre called cupro and a colour that Kilgour described as “blueber- ry.” The second, from Wear Else? in Park Royal’s south mall, was a dressier ensemble in pale pink (pictured right). Both outfits, Denley said, would never have caught her attention if it weren’t for Kilgour’s keen eye. When asked about her wardrobe needs, Denley joked: “1 don’t have a wardrobe. ... | have clathes Pm comfortable in and I have two wonderful suits — one just held together by will power.” Both outfits were accessorized with shoes from Dudek in Park Royal’s south mall. For Denley, who turned 47 the week of her makcover, the beauty treatments and fashion advice were a birthday present she’fl never forget. 2:15 p.en.
