Stolen: °84 Dodge Ramcharger. 4. 800-blk. Riverside Dr. Police receive call from resident who said he’d just heard his car being started up and stolen. Police patrolling in the area soon received a call saying the 1997 black -Infity was not stolen — the owner’s son had it. November 6 5.. Keith and Mountain Hwy. Police patrolling spot two speeding vehicles. The short chase ends when the two vehicles are dumped near Sth and Brooksbank. Both cars turn out to be stolen, six young offenders were taken into custody after a short foot chase. stolen .°93 Dodge. Minimize risk of card fraud THE North Vancouver RCMP offer some tips to tnin- imize the risk of fraudulent use’ of your credit cards or Personal Identification Numbers (PINs): @ don’t carry extra: credit cards, your Social Insurance Card, birth certificate or pass- port in your wallet or purse except when necessary; B when using an ATM or public telephone, shield the screen or keypad so that “shoulder surfers” cannot read your PIN or other data as you enter them; @ take ATM, credit card and other receipts with you, and either save them in a safe place or destroy them in such a way that they can not be read. Also, shred _ pre-approved credit card offers. Dumpster divers can get them from the Wcancel all unused credit card accounts. Even though you don’t use them, their account numbers are recorded in your eredit report which is full of data that can be used by iden- tity thieves; - @keep a list of all your credit cards, the account numbers, and telephone number of the customer service department in a safe place; @ protect your Social Insurance Number (SIN). The SIN is the key to your credit and banking accounts and is a prime target for crim- inals, Don’t give your SIN or any credit card numbers over the phone to anyone you don’t know or a company you’re not familiar with. One ploy that criminals use is to call and pose as your bank or landlord and you to “con- firm” your SIN and/or other data. .. If you are the victim of . § identity theft is extremely important that you act imme- diately to curtail the thief’s - further use of your identity. Call all of your credit issuers § to make them aware — it may «ff save you from liability for fraudulent charges.
