Deadline for Lescarbot Award approaches IN RESPONSE to requests from many cultural organizations, the nomination period for this year’s Cultural Volunteer and Benefactor Recognition Program, the Lescar- bot Award, has been extended by one month to Saturday, Nov. 30. Launched in June 1991, the program has generated consider- able interest and the deadline was mioved te provide organizations and individuals with more time to submit candidates. The Lescarbot Award will be presented during National Volunteer Week in April of 1992. The program is intended to honor those who have contributed significantly, as volunteers or benefactors, to Canada’s cultural life. The award, named for Canada’s first cultural volunteer, Mare Lescarbot, is comprised of three categories: community, regional and Canadian. Recipients will be presented with awards designed by Canadian artist Antoine Lamar- che. There are some 213,000 volun- teers contributing their time and talent to Canada’s cultural organizations; the annual value of their work is estimated to be $182 million. The Task Force on Funding of . the Arts also estirnmated that benefactors, or patrons, donated about $35 million in 1985 alone and that this amount is expected to triple by the year 2000, For further information on submitting nominations cali 666- 5692. et ee oe ee re ee nr a se ae et ee ee ee j 2422 Marine Dr, West Vancouver 922-5751 Finest Cooking of the Greek stands | Platter for Two Speciai Valid With This w@ Coupon Served with Greek Salad, Kalamari, Meat Balis, Dolmades, Spanakopita, Mousaka, Souviaki, Satziki, Pita Eat-in only.
