I'm so fed up with it that I would just like to get my money back. What can I do? : Answer: Your sewing machine will have come with a written war- ranty which sets out the manufac- turer’s liability and you will prob- ably find that they undertake to repair your machine, or replace it if it cannot be repaired. You can try asking the retailer for your money back, but they are not obligated to give it ta you unless it is ordered by a court. The way to accomplish this is to sue in Small Claims Court, but you would have to be prepared to make a very good case that the sewing machine was not suitable for the purpose for which it was bought. You might have a claim since you bought the machine in order to sew and you have been unable to do this because the machine has been away so often for repairs. It would be best to seek legal advice before pursuing this course of action. If you call Lawyer Referral at 687-3221 you will be put in touch with a lawyer who will give you a 30-minute consultation for $10. You should then be able to decide whether you have a rea- sonable chance of success. The dealer you bought the sew- ing machine from is probably the authorized agent for the manufac- turer and should make sure that . you are satisfied with the repairs they have made. If you are not happy with their service contact the manufacturer directly and tell them of your concerns. Reputable companies like to have satisfied customers and wil! do their best to put things right, but you do have to make sure that they are aware that there is a prob- lem.
