In a letter to council, AIDS Vancouver director Bob Tivey said that the organization receives $50,000 a year from Vancouver, but no money from the provincial government to help in the fight against the deadly disease. Ald. Ralph Hall suggested that council should) direetly ask the Provincial government what it is doing about the AIDS situation. “I've had four or five press releases coming across my desk in- dicating that the provincial gov- ernment is doing something about AIDS,” Hall said. Ald. Stella Jo Dean said that the municipality was not the proper body to be dealing with the re- quest. “YT think the people that should be taking responsibility are the provincial and federal departments of health,’* she said. Council decided to refer the matter to the North Shore Union Board of Health and Vancouver’s Metropolitan Board of Health. Staff will send a letter to Victoria asking about the provincial gov- ernment’s funding for AIDS pro- grams.
