HOW I WISH that Canadian school boards would
re-think the traditional summer holiday! This
year, kids have had nearly 11 weeks to lounge
around and practice opening and closing the
refrigerator. Summer jobs have become one of

those “olden days” tales that Mom and Dad bore
them with.

If the family can afford a
holiday, prices are at the
max, motels and cam-
pgrounds crowded, high-
ways congested and flights
overbooked.

As a former teacher I can
assure you that it takes a lot |
longer. to get kids back’'in the
groove. ‘afterthe:’ summer
break ‘than. it.does following
the shorter: + Christmas and
spring breaks. As-a’ parent I
can. assure: you. that J'm i ‘in’ far. _

weeks.

together. After all, we're
together as a group for such
