You may get lucky by visiting the newspaper office and thumbing through back issues. Otherwise you'll just have to wait for my book! Since I haven't started writing it yet, it may be some ume. More reader’s questions: Dear Barhara: I know you've covered this ground before but it was before I needed the advice in black and white to show my wife. We've got two kids, two and three years. Come: fall, we're going to England to visit my family who have never met my wife and have never seen the kids. My wife says that we should take them with us. I am trying to te her that my parents aren't kid-oriented. All of us attended boarding school and my parents breathed a sigh of relief when we left. Their house is full of antique china and delicate furniture. In addition to an aversion to small children, my parents haven't ever been out of Britain. They would have a fit if they saw the way our kids eat, play around and crack each other over the head with toys. It's going to be hard enough for my parents to cope with a Canadian daughter-in-law withoiut two rambunctious kids. Also, can you try to ex- plain the way people in Britain dress for dinner, and generally behave them- selves. I have tried to explain to my wife but she says, “Take me like I am, or don’t take me at all.” ANSWER: My first impulse was to advise your wife to go the “don’t” route. Don't go, don't take the kids and don’t bother with all the nit- picking that she’s quite likely to encounter. I've met people like you describe (your parents) and they give me a gigantic pain approximately where I sit. And, I don’t think much of your approach, either. You've though enough of the gal to marry her, set up housekeeping and have two kids Granted, the cir- cumstances in Britain are different than in Canada But, not all that different. Have you asked your parents about bringing the grand- children? They may _ be looking forward to having them and might have already made arrangements for the care and feeding of same If Tf were your wife deliver me! I'd prefer not to take the hads. If she cares for you, she'll make the supreme sacrifice. Mean- while, I hope you don’t stay too long with your family but take a week or so off to see the country. I'm glad for her sake that your nifty family isn't living two miles away from you, right here in Canada. Unless you are selling your parents as short as you're selling your wife. Dear Barbara: This is a thank-you letter. I don't write too many of silver Wing RENO them so be grateful. I'm grateful to you for telling my wife about those motion- sickness patches that you can wear behind your ear. As a former Navy man, I'd bribed, pleased and prayed for my wife to agree to a cruise. No way! She vowed that she got sick just wat- ching Love Boat and knew that she would rather die than try a cruise. We read your column a few months ago and your adivce to try the patches on a short boat trip made sense but instead of trying B.C. Ferries, we arranged a day trip with some friends who own a pleasure boat. We hit some chop and a lot of swells and my wife felt great. Maybe it was the patches. We've booked your cruise through the Panama! She feels that she can handle it and is looking forward to it. Now, can you get her to cut her baggage down from three suitcases to two? Answer: Since Fm never sea-sick, I can’t say I’ve tried the patches and they work. But, everyone I talked to with tiny bandaids behind their ears seemed to be bearing up. Mind you, we hit very little chop and that may change in a Force-10 gale. May you have calm seas and a pleasant voyage. Since small boats give me_ the willies - it’s not the sea that worries me, it’s the dopes who drive the things, it tries my stomach to its max. to hop around B.C. coastal waters in a small craft. About the baggage - don't argue.
