recycling master plan, I must use
this opportunity, to convince West
Vancouver citizens to support it.

The plan: to supply cach house-
hold, at no cost, with blue boxes
for a glass and metal curbside
pickup collection. We already have
a successful newspaper pickup ser-
vice operating.

The boxes are smart and will not
be an eycsore on your property. I
bought one myself to take home
and I like it. Delta municipality
put such a plan into effect more
than a year ago with great success.
We can do the same.

But we still have the garbage.

long hot bath) without the kids.

Mom's Night Off.

day, Dec. 16, there will be ongoing -

fun at the ‘Y.’

Diaper races and floor activities
for the young set will be organized,
as will badminton and floor
hockey for those a bit older.
Christmas card making (for Mom
of course), a room full of 18 com-
puter games for the video fanatics,
and gingerbread-men decorating
will all be offered.

The YMCA’s Kelly Henderson is
organizing the evening, and will be
running it with the help of the
Young Junior Leaders, the YM-
CA’s teen leadership group.

Henderson said the idea for the!
evening was: suggested by new
YMCA staff member Jim Clark, a
single father. himself who
Henderson says is ‘‘super gung-
ho” about the idea of getting the
dads and kids together for some

So, men, bring the children (in-
fant to 13 years).for fun, celebra-
tion. and quality time spent
together, and Mom ... have a
wonderful night out.

We supplied plastic pails for metal
and glass in 1979 but market forces
made the collection impractical.
We then put in collection depots at
key areas.

As I am asking all citizens; in
the strongest terms, (oO support
recycling, you might just ask, {what
am I doing?:

My family and I save milk car-
tons, stuff them with paper and
burn them in the fireplace; we have
a thriving compost operation; we
not only take our bottles and metal
to the depot, we pick up other
people’s litter on the streets and
traiis as we walk, and dispose of it.

We put out one garbage bag every |

two weeks.

And so at last, ina great leap in
topic and mood, I want to wish
everyone in West Vancouver a tru-
ly Merry Christmas and a Happy
and Prosperous New Year! —
