Blood donor clinic to be held at WV school THE CHANCE to give blood and ‘ perhaps save someone’s life will be «here on Thursday, Sept. 29 at a ~~ Red Cross blood donor clinic at West Vancouver Secondary School. The clinic will be at the schooi, Jocated at 1750 Mathers Ave., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Red Cross emphasizes that the value of a blood donation is not to be underestimated. “Pm living proof that a blood donation is the gift of life,” says Barbara Campbell of Kitimat. Following the birth of her baby son, Michael, Campbell experi- enced a post-partum hemorrhage and further complications. ‘In the course of three days she was given 12 blood transfusions — the equivalent of having her body completely refilled with blood. Campbell had herself been a blood donor prior to her materni- ty. - end. “You always think you can help someone else,’” she said. ‘‘I never dreamed I'd ever need blood.’’ Giving blood was a family tradi- tion with Campbell. Her mother, who had herself required blood when she was quite young, taught ~ her children to always give back more than you receive, she said. Since: receiving blood, Campbell has continued to be a blood donor and encourages others to donate. “J don’t think I’d be around if it hada’t been for the Red Cross. I’d do anything to support them.”’ Barbara Campbell received the gift of life because people she never met gave blood. She never thought she would need it.
