Or, how we wound up with an Easter bunny, painted eggs and hot cross buns? The name Easter was taken fram a Celtic goddess by the name of Eastre. Her name meant spring. The time of her festival was chosen as the first full moon on or following the vernal equinox (March 20). Today the date of Easter is chosen in exactly the same way.
