NEWS BRIEFS Truck torched A PICKUP truck was torched ia North Vancouver City on Dec. 1S. According to a North Vancauver City Fire Department spokesman, the incident occurred at about 11:26 p.m. in the 300-bioch of Mahon Aveaue. The spokesman said the truck was left untocked. Said losp. Dave Burgess, “Ie appears someone was walking through the lanes, rummaging through the gar- bage containers and used the nearest unlocked vehicle as a place to get out of the cold.’ Investigators found in the fire debris remnants from household garbage, including frozen food trays, the re- mains of shoes, and an electric can opener. Upon leaving the vehicle the suspect either intentional- ly ignited the truck or accidentally set it on fire. The Datsun pickup is a write-off. Burgess advises residents to keep their vehicles locked. Stamps stolen THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP is investigating the theft of stamps from the Consumers Drug Mart located at 4317 Gallant Ave. At about 3 p.m. on Dec. 6, two men entered the drug store. While one man distracted a clerk, the other ob- tained access to a stamp drawer. The two left the store with a large quantity of Canadian postage stamps. The suspects ure described as both being Caucasians, about 25 years of age, with brown hair. One of the suspects is about 6°2’' (187 cm), 170 pounds (77 kg), slightly built, with collar-length hair. CANADA EMPLOYMENT NV youth Stabbed on Marine Dr. AN 18-YEAR-old North Vancouver male is recov- ering al Lions Gate Hospi- tal after being stabbed on Dec. 18 in the 1000-block of Marine Drive in North Vancouver. The stabbing occurred at ap- proximately 7 p.m. A North Van- couver RCMP spokesman said the stabbing resulted from a_ verbal confrontation. The police arrested one male Suspect and seized a car believed to have been used by the suspect and others. The arrested suspect was subse- quently released. An investigation into the inci- dent continues. The police are looking for a suspect described as being a white male, 17 to 18 years of age. The police spokesman said the incident is not believed to be gang-related.
