The word ‘‘glazing’’ refers to
the various glass types used in
building products ‘such as
skylights, windows and doors.

In past years, windows were
single-glazed or, put simply, the
window glass consisted of a single
pane. The availability of insulated
glass, however, has rendered
single-glazed units almost obsolete.

Insulated glass consists of two
panes: of glass sealed together with
an air space in between. This
space reduces the passage of heat
by as much as one-half of a single
glass pane; thus the double-glaz-
ing creates a unit that is far more
energy-efficient than its single-
glazed counterpart.
