The twentieth day of March has been celebrated by the culture as Norooz (New Day) for almost 3,600 years and is the first day of the Iranian calendar. Weeks before Norooz preparations for the celebrations inciude piacing seeds in bowls of water, sending greeting cards, and on the eve of the last Wednesday of the year jumping over bonfires to leave behind the sorrows of the old year. Bylaw to enhance WV gateway WEST VANCOUVER District Council gave first reading March 16 to a bylaw that would designate West Van- couver’s Taylor Way and Marine Drive ‘‘gateway’ velopment permit area. The designation would be entered into the Official Com- munity Plan. West Vancouver District Coun- cil also scheduled a public hearing into the matter for April 27 at 7:45 p.m. at district hall.
