10 - Wednesday, June 27, 1990 - North Shore News AFTER MORE than three years of inter-governmental wrangling, the Meech Lake Accord has finally failed. On Saturday night the offical deadline for the provinces to ratify the accord went by without Manitoba and Newfoundland either able or wiiling to pass the deal. Even before the deal died, politicians were pointing fingers at each other to lay blame while still other pessimists predicted Canada's economy will be the first to suffer the fallout frem the failed accord. However, people opposed tu granting Quebec special status within the Canadian Confederation as weli as many Quebec separatists greeted the failure of the accord as good news.
