THE ETHNO Business Council OF B.C. is inviting the public to participate in its Logo Design Contest. The Ethne Business Council of B.C., a non-profit group, was set up in 1988 with a view to bridging the language and cultural barriers, which sometimes get in the way of properly understanding the feasible ways and means of immigrant en- trepreneurs establishing their businesses in B.C. The logo, in addition to identi- fying the Ethno Business Council of B.C. and its work, should be capabie of being reduced to a small size for use on letterheads, envelopes, business cards or enlarged to use on posters and flags. VANDER ZALM. Over the past ten years the Psychiatric Nurses, and Community Nurses employed by the provincial government, have seen their wages fall further and further behind their counterparts in general hospitals. Government nurses, who were equal to their general hospital counterparts ten years ago, have now fallen between $655 and $851 per month behind depending on their classification. Now they want to catch up! Now they deserve to catch up! The government created the problem. Now the government must solve the problem! But wages are not the only issue. The downsizing and closing of facilities which presently care for the mentally ill and mentally handicapped over the next ten years will see up to 957 of the 1220 nurses employed by the government in these facilities facing permanent lay off. The nurses nave asked the government to provide refresher courses and retraining to prepare thein to work in general hospitals. This common sense upproach to helping reduce the critical shortage of general health care nurses has been rejected by the government. The government simply intends to put these women and men out of work. These nurses care for people who cannot care for themselves. People who's quality of life depends on the skill, dedication. and caring of government nurses. In reLurn all these nurses ask is to be treated in a fair manner! The way in which the province’s psychiatric and community nurses are being mistreated is typical of the Vander Zalm government. Create the problem, refuse to resolve it fairly, and force confrontation! THE PROVINCE’S PSYCHIATRIC AND COMMUNITY NURSES DESERVE BETTER MR. VANDER ZALM! 27 - Sunday, May 27, 1990 - North Shore News
