8 -— Wednesday, December 14, 1988 — North Shore News NVD aidermanic hopeful says thanks Dear Editor: I would like to thank the many thousands who supported me and voted for me at the Nov. 19 municipal election in the District of North Vancouver. During the 1988 municipal cam- paign, | had the pleasure of walk- ing through every neighborhood and visiting every second home in our community. I met so many fine people, earned their respect and in turn received more votes than any other first-time alder- manic candidate in the 97 year his- tory of the district. Having talked with so many people and having seen as much as I did, I cannot but respect the collective wisdom and fine character of our community. On election night I won a seat on council with a slim plurality of 18 votes. This is a fitting tribute to the fine character of our com- munity — willing to support change and look to the future. With the official recount I lost by five votes. You can rest assured that I will run again in 1990 and win again. I decided against a judicial re- count because I feel a judicial re- count would be a drawn-out and complicated battle that would ultimately find its way to the highest court in B.C. A judicial review would cost both myself and the taxpayers in our community a great deal of time and money. It is in the best interest of the com- munity that - accept the official recount and let the council and our district staff get on with their work. I wish council and district staff every success in the next two years, in particular her Worship Marilyn Baker who has publicly indicated she is serving her final term as mayor. With so many important issues confronting us, you can rest assured that I will continue to take an active role in our community’s affairs. The mayor nas appointed me to the District's Advisory Planning Commission. Have a Merry Christmas, and a happy and safe new year. Once again, thank you for your support. We will meet again in 1990 if not sooner.
