Dope growing nets fine A 32-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was fined $1,000 Thurs- day in North Vancouver provincial court after he pleaded guilty to cultivating marijuana. John Ross McKenzie was originally charged joindly with Debra Louise McKenzie with one count of cultivating marijuana and one count of possessing the drug for the purposes of trafficking. The charges were laid in connection with an April 13 seizure of 35 marijuana plants worth an estimated $31,800, and $5,000 worth of hydroponic gardening equipment from a Lynn Valley Home. Apvearing before Judge J.D. Layton, McKenzie pleaded guilty to the charge of cultivating a narcotic and was fined $1,000. The Crown entered a stay of proceedings in the second charge and entered a stay of proceedings in both charges against Debra McKenzie. In addition to the fine, McKenzie had his gardening equipment confiscated. Call firefighters when alarm rings WHEN THE fire alarm rings, call the fire department. A fire department spokesman said many people wrongly believe that when a fire alarm rings in an apartment building, the fire department is automatically notified. Said Insp.
