A PARADE, and service to
mark the 35th anniversary
of the signing of the Korea
War Peace Accords will be
held at the West Vancouver
Cenotaph on Sunday July
24.

Participants will meet at the
Cenotaph at 10:45 a.m., where a
brief ceremony will be held at 11
a.m. to pay tribute to Canadian,
and other servicemen, killed during
the conflict and to dedicate a me-
morial inscription.

The inscription will be unveiled
by North Vancouver’s Brigadier-
General Dick Danby DSO OBE
CD Rtd, who was Chief of Staff,
Commonwealth Forces, during the
conflict. During the Rededication
Service, West Vancouver’s Art
Kemsley will read part of the Ar-
mistice Agreement, as he did on
July 25 1953, as a young company
commander with 3rd Bn PPCLI.

Following the service, those
assembled will march past the
cenotaph where the salute will be
taken by West Vancouver’s Mayor
Don Lanskail. Other dignitaries
attending are Kie Ok Chung, Con-
sul General of the Republic of
Korea and West Vancouver's
Lt.-Col. Bill Dow CD, Honorary
Colonel of Six Field Engineer
Squadron, the only military
(reserve) unit on the North Shore.

A reception is to be held at the
West Vancouver Legion Hall.

All Korea war veterans of any
nationality are urged to attend the
Memorial Service and should meet
near the Marine Drive cenotaph no
later than 10:45 a.m. Medals are to
be worn.

North and West Vancouver Unit
49, Korea Veterans Association of
Canada, was recently formed and
meets regularly at the officers’
mess, Six Field Engineer
Squadron, 1513 Forbes Avenue,
North Vancouver.

Its members served with the
navy, army or air forces of a
number of United Nations con-
tingents, including Greece and
Korea. Information about the unit
