Triathlon scheduled to take place
Aug. 30 in Penticton.

One of only four designated
Ironman competitions in the
world, the Penticton event is a
qualifying contest for the Oct. 10
Bud Light World Ironman cham-
pionship in Kona, Hawaii.

triathlon.

From West Vancouver,
Morgan will be racing in
three-part competition,

More than 600 racers are ex-
pected to take part in the Aug. 30
event, which will be nationally
televised and seen on cable systems
in the United States and Europe.

The three top finishers in each
category at the Penticton competi-
tion will qualify for the Hawaiian
event.

Marlins swim team Captured se-
cond place in the British Columbia
Summer Swim Association
(BCSSA) Vancouver and District
Regional Championship swim meet
on Aug. 8 and 9,

Forty-eight swimmers ranging in
age from six to 18 years were
coached by Pamela Rai and Philip
Skinder to outstanding perfor-
mances in qualifying for the
BCSSA provincial championships
being held in Victoria this
weekend,

The team was fed by three
swimmers who estiblished new
pool records at the meet: Gillian
Honeyman in the 50-metre
breaststroke and 100-metre
freestyle, Mary Anne Heskin in
100-metre freestyle and 200-metre
individual medley, and Scott
Tasaka in the 50-metre fi reestyle,

Also recognized for their
outstanding performances were
Joanna Calla, Sarah Cunningham,
Douglas Shaw, Matthew Boyd,
Jonathon Calla, Jessica Campbell,
Tom Schjelderup, Cam Wilson,
Jenaifer Honeyman and Christine
Campbell.

Cruisers seit
swim records

TWO NEW pool records were set
by North Vancouver Cruisers
swimmers Carli Richter and Jason
Thomson at the regional champi-
onships held Aug. 8 and 9 at Percy
Norman Pool.

Richter set her record in the
100-metre backstroke, while
Thomson set his record in the
100-metre freestyle.

The two competed against
swimmers from the North Shore
Winter Club, the Vancouver Vik-
ings and the Squamish Steelheads,

All 53 Cruisers swam their per-
sonal best times in the meet.
