AIDS education hits

WEST VANCOUVER School
Board introduced a comprehensive
AIDS program to be taught to
Grades 7-12 at the board's recent
meeting.

Board member Barbara Howard
said the program shows the board
is not ignoring AIDS, although it
has not previously commented on
AIDS education.

Asst. Supt. Bob Overgaard, who
organized the program, said, ‘At
each secondary school, principals
have already organized a program

for Grade 12 students.”

The new program will discuss
the individual, social roles,
reproductive biology, sexually
transmitted diseases and personal
responsibility in five consecutive
classes.

Overgaard said parents have
three options regarding the pro-
gram they can allow their
children to participate, they can
withdraw their children from the
program and they can teach their
children the course materials,
