Cruise terminal

THE VANCOUVER Port Cor-
poration recently announced that
Empire Stevedoring Company
Limited has been awarded the ser-
vice contract for Canada Place and
Ballantyne Terminal for the 1987
cruise season.

Services to be provided by Em-
pire Stevedoring will include line-
handling, loading and unloading
of passenger baggage, loading ship
stores and provisions, connecting
telephone and fresh water service,
cleaning and janitorial services.

The 5%4-month cruise season
generates approximately 80,000
manhours of employment at the
two terminals in servicing the more
than 200 vessel calls.

Empire Stevedoring also pro-
vides terminal services for Van-
couver Port Corporation at
Vanterm, one of the port's two
major container facilities.

The terminal will open for the
1987 cruise season May 12. First
arrival will be Holland America’s
1,200-passenger cruise ship, Rot-
terdam.
